EMBODYING SPIRITUALITY
I aim to embody a sublime quality of spirituality. The hooded figures or sweeping landscapes connote human presence yet are void of direct human depiction. This implies the spiritual realms that are present in the world, but are intangible. I generally avoid using colour, creating images that are monochromatic or even severe in their unadorned black and white. Colour can evoke specific emotions and I feel that it is important that the works are not overly narrative in their meanings, thus leaving the viewer to infer and respond to them according to their own unique understanding.
