Art is something artists produce, but they do not exactly know why
People expect Artists to be different; we are because we think outside the box! And dress funny! I was born in South Africa 1952. My creative streak became apparent in my teens with dress design and creation focusing on evening wear, wedding dresses and ball gowns. I ventured into art at the age of 37. Having backpacked extensively overseas with my daughters allows me to draw from so many experiences in my art. Being creative and imaginative I am not limited by the traditional artists? media. Ongoing exhibition for 13 years at a renowned tourist attraction in Johannesburg, popular with international visitors and locals alike. I perfected a technique using watercolour and wax. Artworks incorporated stylised animals and African symbols which appeal to local and overseas visitors. I launched a range of clothing using designs inspired by the artworks. Prints, cards and bookmarks followed. In 2005 we relocated to Hartbeesport Dam into another unfinished house: painting walls, etc has been exciting. Hartbeesport Dam is an artist?s haven and is already inspiring great new abstract artworks. "Art is something artists produce, but they do not exactly know why" -reading this says it all. You have this "stuff" you have to get out! And Mervin cooks dinner AGAIN!
