Renee Johannes (reneejohannes)
Concepts of fantasy and reality, mood and feeling
Renee studied artistic expression and technique under the well known and respected artist, Hermine Spies Coleman from 1994 to 1999. Working initially in the media of watercolour and charcoal, her discovery of acrylic and oil paint and its attendant properties has enabled her to develop and explore her fascination with the concepts of fantasy and reality, mood and feeling. Her paintings represent states of mind. She uses everyday objects, abstractly portrayed, to create mood. Renee draws inspiration from the use of colour. Her paintings are typified by unique combinations of colour and texture, which together produce a vivid and dramatic fusion of perception and feeling. Renee's paintings are explorations of concepts of fantasy and reality. Sometimes startling in the intensity of their colour and form, her paintings may, diversely, shock, bewilder or amuse. Renee's scope as an artist is as unlimited as her originality and expressiveness. Renee also pursued a career as an Attorney, but has retired from a full time position as a lawyer to pursue an art career. She has an Advanced Diploma and obtained a Master?s degree in art history in 2011 at the University of the Witwatersrand.
