Biography
Paul Dixon is a painter of wildlife living and working in Cape Town, South Africa. His work is primarily carried out in oils but he occasionally works with pastel or graphite. As a self-taught artist Paul has developed his own 'realistic' but not 'photographic' style. He strives to capture the light and atmosphere that affects the subjects he paints in their natural environment lending authenticity to the finished works. His work has been exhibited in The US, the Uk and across Southern Africa on numerous occasions and can be found in private and corporate collections across the globe. Paul has had his work featured on a number of occasions in various international publications. he has been the recipient of several international awards including winning the 'Earth's Wild Beauty' category in the 'David Shepherd Wildlife Artist of the Year' competition 2020, often considered to be the "oscars' of wildlife art. He was the Grand Prize winner in the 'International Artist' magazine 'Wildlife' category 2013 and has been a finalist on numerous occasions. He was also a winner in the 'Over 60's' Competition of the 'Artists Magazine' (USA) in April 2020. In 2024 Paul was the recipient of the 3rd place in 'The Golden Turtle' Wildlife Festival in the 'Portrait of the Animal' category with his pastel portrayal of a Cheetah titled 'Into the Distance'. In 2023 Paul was honoured with the first place in the 'Africa Wildlife Artist of the Year' held in Namibia annually. His most recent achievement was in 2025 winning the top place in 'The Golden Turtle Festival' held in Moscow yearly in the category 'Animals in the Wild' with his oil painting 'Etosha, Heat & Dust'. To raise awareness and much needed funds Paul makes regular donations of his works to worthy causes to help mitigate the threat of extinction of the wildlife he paints.
