Jade Castles (Bottled Brushstrokes)
Playing with perception
Jade Castles is a South African artist, anthropologist and systems thinker whose creative practice is shaped by over 15 years of working across the African continent in education, environmental sustainability, and behaviour change. With academic grounding in Anthropology, Environment and Development from Rhodes University and the University College of London, Jade’s art is informed by a lifetime of engaging with complex human and ecological systems. Blending satire, absurdism, and deep social commentary, her “At the End of the Universe” series investigates oft-overlooked people and routines that hold our world together, while reflecting, somewhat cynically, on all jobs in the face of increasing global uncertainty. After years of working in diverse contexts, Jade returned to Cape Town in 2015 - her city of birth - where her practice continues to be shaped by both local dynamics and broader questions about how we live, work, and respond to change.
