Carol Hayward Fell
CERAMIC ARTIST
I have worked in clay since 1971, making mostly coiled vessels and sculptures, which are in many public art museum collections throughout SA. I have lectured Ceramics at DUT and exhibited widely. Currently I am concentrating on making quirky, expressive, sculptures of horses, inspired by my interest in the art of ancient civilizations. I exaggerate proportions with elongated necks, fine heads, detailed manes and tails, with simplified legs. I often add other animals as a humorous element. I texture the surfaces of my white horses by trailing intricately detailed patterns, using white porcelain clay in a syringe. Each work is unique, handmade, highly labour intensive and signed underneath.
