Anna Heydorn (du Toit)
Anna?s lifelong interest in art started when she, as a child moved from the U.K. where she was born to Bulawayo in (then) Rhodesia. She did art as a school subject to ?A? Level and when the family left to move to Cape Town, she enrolled at Michaelis School of Art. She followed her family when they moved to Johannesburg but returned to the Cape when she met and married an Apple Farmer. Once her children were at school she joined a small, new art group in Elgin run by artist and teacher Len Thomas and started working in watercolour which has remained her favorite medium although she also enjoys working with acrylic, pastels and inks. With the backbone of a strong composition, it is watercolour with its luminous and subtle qualities that she feels best assist her to express light and emotion in her paintings. The Elgin Art Group started by Len Thomas over 27 years ago is still in existence and the headquarters and small gallery are now at Anna?s home ?High Rising? in Elgin. The weekly meeting of the members to share information, inspiration and encouragement provide her with the challenge to keep painting and creating.
