RAYAAN CASSIEM

Born and raised on the Cape Flats, I was never found without a crayon, paintbrush or pencil in hand scribbling, doodling and painting for hours at a time. Inspiration for my work is drawn from a myriad of avenues including books, world events, graphic design, graphic novels, animation, video games, fine art as well as graffiti and street art.

'Star Child' depicts a masked race of an advanced ancient civilization, but also touches on it's modern-day counterpart who have forgotten their true history and legacy, as humans increasingly live shallow lives, hiding behind a façade of materialism. It hopefully serves as a call to action to start living authentic, self-reliant lives with the ability to own our personal power.
