Although I like to vary my subject matter and paint anything from landscapes to still life, I always seem to return to the female figure as a preferred subject. There is a quiet secret hiding in every female figure, whether it is joy, sadness, hope, fear, hurt or even, satire. To capture this subtle emotion in an artwork is a challenge that keeps me intrigued. With the still life pieces a decorative element comes into play with the use of richer and more vibrant colours. I feel the real joy of art making lies in the process, the smell of the paint and the occasional turpentine taste in your coffee.
