AT BOTHA

At Botha was born on the 23rd of December 1949 in Kroonstad in the Orange Free State. Ever since he could hold a pencil, he showed an interest in the arts. In primary school he experimented with watercolors, and by high school he had started working in oils.

After matric and a year in the army in 1968, he decided to study drama at the University of Potchefstroom, later embarking on a freelance career acting on stage, TV, film and radio - becoming a household name in the homes of theatre and television lovers.

Throughout his acting career (1975-1991) he continued to paint, but his work was mainly given to friends and family as gifts.

In 1991 At decided to pursue art as a secondary career to his acting, but before the year was complete, acting had taken a back seat and At was focusing all his efforts on his art.

In 2011 At decided to leave Johannesburg and moved to Paternoster in the Western Cape where he opened his own gallery, namely the At Botha Art Gallery.

Here he facilities painting retreats where beginners can learn to paint in Acrylic by starting and finishing a painting each day under his tutor. For more information about the art classes, At can be contacted on atbothastudio@vodamail.co.za
