Nicola Taylor was born in Johannesburg in 1984. After Studying Fine Art in Florence and London she returned to South Africa in 2010 for her first solo exhibition at the Everard Read Gallery. Subsequently she has had two solo shows including her first international exhibition at the Dundas Street Gallery in Edinburgh. She has also participated in various group shows. Nicola's studio is at the Bag Factory in Johannesburg. Her primary medium is oil on canvas; she is also currently working on various projects using printmaking, stop frame animation, installation and sculpture. Nicola explores nature and the human condition, generating a sense of connectedness through her artwork. ’To paint is the most natural thing for me to do’. Nicola’s creativity and artwork is driven by occurrences and scenarios that 'reaffirm our common experience of life’. The process and the act of creating artwork is her focus. She says that an artwork should not just mean, it should be.
