Helen van Stolk

Helen shares a studio with Lesley Charnock at Montebello, Newlands. She is committed to studying and learning from her highly talented contemporaries. Passionate about art, she avidly reads up on technique and observes other successful artists work through books, dvd’s, international artist magazines and visiting galleries.

Commissions have included some very large work for an apartment in V&A Waterfront and homes in Bishopscourt and Constantia. Her work has found homes in South Africa and Europe.

Her preferred medium is oils and she enjoys figurative work. She feels that figures bring a scene to life and strives to tell a story and create a mood by capturing a moment in time. She steps into the scene when painting and hopes the viewer is able to do the same.

Although she is mostly a studio painter, you will occasionally find her enjoying plein-air painting on the streets of Cape Town. She is inspired by characters and scenes found in and around our beautiful city and on her travels.

Helen’s work is represented at Cape Gallery (Church Street, Cape Town), Art Connection (The Bay Hotel, Camps Bay & Hout Bay) and Eclectica Modern.
