Sarah Alissandra Mackie

As a child, I began painting flowers and San rock art. I studied Fine Art & Archaeology at UCT and then did an apprenticeship with Artscape as a scenic painter and costume artist. It was while working with Peter Cazalet on ballet costumes that I discovered my affinity for painting silk. The medium of watercolour on silk gives my paintings of indigenous flowers a translucent quality and reflects the quality of 'magic' in my rock art paintings. My subject matter varies and I love to paint and draw the local fisher folk and indigenous people, as well as seascapes. I have an art studio at the Hout Bay Harbour and exhibit my work regularly at Kirstenbosch.
