'My art practice is influenced by people, events and my reflections on it. I am influenced by change; be that in nature or in matters related to the human condition. The human form and psyche has always been fascinating study material. The sense of self-extending to community is an area of exploration currently'.
Visual artist Desireé Brand lives in a rural wine producing area where she not only sculpts, but has also been involved in community art development over the last 3 years.
On this page you will be able to view some of Desiree’s beautiful sculptures that relate to the symbiotic relationship between the vine and us. Her husband is a wine maker and the vine and its relation to art have inspired her as she discovered many similarities between the making of wine and the making of art.
In addition to her sculpture work, you will also see work produced by artists in her community as a result of the Body Mapping workshops that she has initiated and facilitated. Through these workshops she is hoping to discover whether visual art can be used as a tool to raise social cohesion within fragmented communities.
Please see the upcoming exhibitions section on the website for more information on upcoming exhibitions and workshops relating to Body Mapping.
