My art has evolved in many ways over the years, yet I still have a strong spiritual connection with the natural world. I have recently explored my very personal experiences and world-view in my work. This has led to looking at my cultural roots and issues around language and their interaction with my socio-political environment. My solo exhibition in 2011 where I paid tribute to the group of Afrikaans authors known as The Sestigers, has rekindled my interest in the connection between language and culture. This has led to many works dealing with the theme of image and text. I am currently dealing with the degeneration of material as a metaphor of changes in my own physical world. My collaborations with composer Pierre-Henri Wicomb have explored the relationship of visual-scapes and sound-scapes.
